Ganz Kalifornien ist eine Filmkulisse. Bereits vor der Landung beim Blick aus dem Fenster kommen unzählige Filmerinnerungen von Oliver Stone bis Quentin Tarantino hoch. Wenn ich den Highway One nach Monterey hochfahre bin ich sofort in Big Little Lies, in Santa Monica bei Californication. Im Hinterland erinnern mich die orange-grauen Berge an unzählige, großartige Independent Filme, die Nationalparks Joshua Tree und Death Valley an moderne Western (wie Breaking Bad oder Westworld) in denen meistens Stadtmenschen in einer bedrohlichen Umgebung um ihr Leben kämpfen. Gefährlich und faszinierend. Im Hinterland geht ohne Auto gar nichts - andererseits habe ich beim letzten Mal L.A. ausschließlich mit dem E-Bike durchquert. Am meisten berührt mich der nächtliche Blick vom Mulholland Drive hinunter in die Stadt. Wenn David Lynch mich in seine verrückten Träume entführt. The City of Angels - the Land of Dreams.
All of California is a film set. Even before landing when I look out the window, countless memories come up - from Oliver Stone to Quentin Tarantino. When I drive up Highway One to Monterey I find myself in Big Little Lies, in Californication when I am in Santa Monica. Joshua Tree Park and Death Valley remind me of modern westerns (like Breaking Bad or Westworld) in which city people fight for their lives in a threatening and fascinating environment.
